Liberation Through Healing
Our Name & Heritage
Kairi Therapy takes its name from 'Kairi', one of the original names used by the Arawak people - the first people to live on the Caribbean island known as Trinidad. The name is associated with the hummingbird, a symbol of freedom, resilience and vitality.
Therefore, Kairi Therapy represents both liberation and the connection to one's roots by unearthing truth - both culturally and personally.
Our Mission
Psychological distress can sometimes cloud or disrupt our sense of self. At Kairi Therapy, we support clients to navigate those storms, reconnect with their authentic selves and access tools to live freely.

Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that starting therapy can feel overwhelming. Here are answers to some common questions to help you feel more prepared for your journey.
What happens in the first therapy session?
Your first session is about creating a safe space and understanding your needs. We'll discuss what brought you to therapy, your goals, and any concerns you have. I'll explain how I work, confidentiality, and answer any questions. There's no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with - we'll go at your pace.
How long does therapy typically take?
The length of therapy varies greatly depending on your individual needs and goals. Some people find benefit in just a few sessions for specific issues, while others engage in longer-term work for deeper exploration and change. We'll regularly review your progress together and adjust as needed.
Is everything I share completely confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is fundamental to our work together. Everything you share is kept strictly confidential, with very limited exceptions required by law (such as risk of serious harm to yourself or others). I'll always discuss any concerns with you first whenever possible.
Do you offer online therapy sessions?
Yes, I offer both in-person and secure online therapy sessions via video call. Online sessions can be particularly helpful for those with mobility issues, busy schedules, or who live further away. The therapeutic relationship and effectiveness remain strong in both formats.
What are your cancellation and payment policies?
Payment is required within 48 hours of your appointment to confirm your slot. We accept bank transfers and card payments. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give at least 48 hours notice to avoid charges. Emergency situations are always considered with understanding and flexibility.
How do I know if you're the right therapist for me?
Finding the right therapeutic fit is crucial. That's why I offer a free 20-minute consultation where we can meet, discuss your needs, and see how we connect. Trust your instincts - you should feel heard, understood, and comfortable. A good therapeutic relationship is the foundation of effective therapy.
Do you work with specific cultural or identity issues?
Absolutely. As someone with Caribbean heritage, I understand the importance of culturally sensitive therapy. My doctoral thesis and published research specialised in racial identity in therapeutic relationships and ethnic minority experiences of therapy. I welcome people from all backgrounds and identities, and I'm particularly attuned to the experiences of those from diverse cultural backgrounds and anyone who feels they need a therapist who truly 'gets' their experience.
What should I do in a mental health emergency?
If you're experiencing thoughts of self-harm or suicide, please contact emergency services (999), go to your nearest A&E, or call the Samaritans (116 123 - free, 24/7). For urgent mental health support, contact your local NHS crisis team (call 111 select option 2) or text SHOUT to 85258 for free crisis support.
